*Done during internship at NorthernLight, please treat confidential*
Brief: Create a cohesive set of visuals for NorthernLight to show to prospective clients to expand their portfolio of rooftop and highrise experiences.
Result: Images and a video detailing three concepts, published in a newsletter and shown in a successful presentation to a client.
NorthernLight has a growing portfolio of highrise experiences, including the ADAM tower. They tasked me with coming up with new concepts to show clients interested in creating new experiences, instead of having to compile old work in differing visual styles.
Completed (alongside other projects) during a 13 week internship in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Tools: Fusion360, Photoshop, Keyshot, Vizcom, Procreate, Premiere Pro
Concepts
Panorama Pool
Float above the rooftops: Experience a truly unique space high above the hustle and bustle of the city. Relax on the sunny deck or swim a few laps looking down on the surrounding buildings.
Eye in the Sky
Witness a mirrored city: Step over the edge and onto thin air, far above the ground. Walk in the space between two worlds: the city below and its warped mirror image above.
Skyline Mosaic
See the city in a new light: Enter a magical panorama of dappled light and bask in the colorful history of the surroundings, with stories about each building integrated into the 360º view.

First Sketches
Drawing on the inspiration above, I sketched 9 ideas for rooftop installations, and then used Vizcom to give them a visual character similar to other NorthernLight concept images. I then chose 5 to work out more carefully, seen below.
1. Rooftop Net: Inspired by climbing structures and spiderwebs, this suspended organic net would let people relax and lay around in the sky.
2. Circle Walkway: Heavily inspired by Olafur Eliasson's 'Rainbow Panorama', this idea included a stained glass panoramic viewing platform that matched the view of the skyline around it.
3. Mirror Ball: This cantilevered sphere would be half window and half mirror, so visitors inside would see the skyline both below and above them.
4. Sky Treewalk: Inspired by treetop walks, this installation would create a forest in the sky and a fun activity space.
5. Skyline Sea: Drawing on infinity pools and boat rentals, this idea would have visitors float in a ring-shaped pool around a skyscraper, taking in 360º views.
Narrowing Down
After presenting the 5 concepts above, I focused in on 3, with some changes. Those three were the skyline sea, circle walkway, and mirror ball. I then went into CAD to create rough 3D models that I could build my concept renders off of.
Rendering
Shown above is a sample of part of my process with one of the concepts. I first threw the rough model into Keyshot with an HDRI background, which looked very flat and undramatic. I sketched out my final vision, then refined the 3D model and the lighting. Then I started experimenting in photoshop, trying to use generative fill to create backgrounds, which still didn't work very well, so I turned to stock images and more photoshop work, resulting in...
